Indianapolis Colts vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Austin Collie was knocked unconcious by this big hit by Eagles’ Safety Kurt Coleman. Coleman was flagged for a personal foul due to the natue of it being a helmet to helmet hit. Two things caught my eye while watching this hit.

  1. The flag was not thrown until the referee saw Collie was left motionless on the field. If Collie had been able to get up, this very well could have been ruled a fumble.
  2. In no way, shape, or form did Kurt Coleman show recklessness or intent to harm in delivering this hit. Coleman actually lead with his shoulder and helmet to helmet contact ensued because Collie was pushed by another defender.

At halftime of this game, CBS analyst Shannon Sharp said, “There was no intent to harm, this is not a personal foul.” So let’s hear it – Should Kurt Coleman be fined for this hit?
